The Kabbalistic Circle of Amsterdam: masters of worlds

“It was unbelievable,” our founder recalls. “While researching the Kabbalist Isaac of Granada in Spain, I discovered that his book was actually printed in Amsterdam, known in Hebrew as Mokum Alef, or simply Mokum.”

Few people know that Amsterdam was once a vibrant center of Jewish spiritual life. After the expulsion from Spain and Portugal, Sephardic Jews brought with them centuries of knowledge, tradition and Kabbala.

Something unusual emerged here.

Unlike Kabbalistic centers such as Tzfat and Gerona (remarkable story as well), Amsterdam became a crossroads of spirituality and worldly life. Thinkers and merchants from Spain, Portugal, Italy and Morocco met in a city of trade, publishing and ideas. Figures such as Menasseh ben Israel moved naturally between these worlds.

Amsterdam became one of the world’s great centers of Hebrew publishing. Torah and Kabbala flourished alongside commerce and diplomacy.

That legacy is still here. Ets Haim, the world’s oldest active Jewish library, remains inside Amsterdam’s Portuguese Synagogue.

The Amsterdam Kabbala Tour Program (2026)

A personal 2-hour walk into the hidden layers of Amsterdam—where trade, spirituality, and Kabbala once met.

• Duration: 2 hours
• Group size: Maximum of 4 people
• Price: €175 per person (includes entry to the Portuguese Synagogue)

Program Outline: 

The program is experiential, experiencing and understanding kabbala against the city of Amsterdam and the stories that have happened. It merges international business, the history of kabbalistic influences and your personal development. 

It isnt a tour of sharing knowledge and facts (which go to your head) only. We want you to experience the city, kabbalah and of course understand the vision and concepts of which kabbalists (called: mekubalim) use. 

The tree of life, the central concept of kabbala is weaven through the program as the sources of power and development. We invite the participants to ‘connecting the dots’ and apply it to their own lives. 

• A Personal Question
  Bring a real-life question or theme from your own life or leadership. We’ll reflect on it through the lens of the Tree of Life.
• A Small Ritual or Intervention
  Not just theory—something you can feel. A simple exercise to experience what Kabbala is really about.

    A simple introduction to how a Kabbalist sees the world—and the inner structure of the soul.
  • Entering the Ma’amad (if allowed for the public)
